| What are TeddyBearSchnoodles? Our Schnoodles are one half registered Schnauzer and one half registered Poodle. The reason we call them TeddyBearSchnoodles is because we will only allow a special type of Schnauzer and poodle to be a part of our breeding program. We have been raising show Goldens for 15 years and we have a very specific type or look that we focus on. We like the shorter more square heads and we have learned to make that very special type Golden. When we began to develope our Schnoodle type, we applied the same standards to our Schnauzer and Poodles . I really adore the shorter teddybear face and I really do not care for the longer pointed nose on my dogs. So I was naturally drawn to the dogs that had this look, it's not easy to find dogs that fit this criteria but over the years we have found some that are very nice and make the most adorable little TeddybearSchnoodles that you see featured all over our website. How did you get into breeding Schnoodles? I love to tell this story because it is so funny. I have five children my oldest is Lauren, then I have three sons, and a baby girl. My children have been raised with Goldens since they were very young. We have always been a Golden Retriever family. Then one day my daughter ask me if I would consider a smaller dog for her. She had spent a lot of time at her youth leaders home and they had a Schnauzer "Samson" who was adorable. She really liked him and had her heart set on a little Schnauzer puppy. She made a good case that she should be able to have a dog of her choosing not just the ones that I liked. She liked the Goldens but she wanted a small little lap dog. I decided to allow her to get a puppy so the search began. We looked all over the for the perfect little salt and pepper female. She was praying everyday that God help her find her puppy. I was very particular because I was so into conformation and I really wanted a well breed dog. She finally found this wonderful little Salt and pepper Schnauzer that we named Lexi, she was just what Lauren wanted and she was very nice. We have best friends that we purchased our land together with and they built next door to us. They wanted a Poodle so I was the person that all my friends look to when they need a puppy. We began the same search for their poodle. We found the most adorable little Phantom Poodle "Preppy". Preppy and Lexi were best freinds the moment they met. One reason being they were the only dogs on the farm that were small, all the others were big Goldens. The day came that Lexi came into season and I was in charge of her. As Lauren left for school one day she told me to watch Lexi and make sure she does not go outside, I promised her I would watch lexi as I kissed all the children goodbye an sat down with my morning coffee to read my daily devotions. After a few minutes I looked out my large kitchen window and across the many acres that led to my friends home where Preppy sat basking in the early morning sun,all of a sudden I looked out my breakfast area window, to see Lexi unning as fast as she could to her best friend Preppy and he seeing her running his way, leaped up and ran as fast as he could towards her. You can only imagine what I did, I ran out the door across the property in my robe with my coffee in hand, but I was to late. Preppy and Lexi were soon to be parents. I was so upset and did not know how I was going to tell Lauren what had happened. I decided to try to find someone of the internet that may have had this same accident. I guessed that they would be called a Schnoodle and to my amazement I found out that I was soon be the mother to what some were calling the greatest little new breed in the world. Once the shock of Lexi being pregnant was over, I set into getting prepared. We were getting so excited and could hardly wait to see our new babies. When they were born we began taking pictures of them and showing them off to everyone. We built a webpage link to them from our Goldens page. We were not prepared for the overwhelming response that we had. Everyone loved Lexi's puppies and they all wanting them. They were all adopted the first day to so and then we had numerous requests for more. We had to make a decision at that time as to what we would do with new found breed that was so adorable, we had fallen in love those little Schnoodles, just like everyone else. We believed that it was a divine intervention into our lives. since we ask God daily guide our steps we believed that He had brought this our way and that it was His plan for us. We have dedicated ourselves to producing TeddyBearSchnoodles so that other families could have one for themselves. We still have our Goldens but there always room to love and we love our SCHNOODLES!! That's our Story!! What's a Wookie? When Lexi had those first four Schnoodles we had one puppy that we were not sure what he was. He had all kinds of colors on him and I was not sure how cute he was going to be, but as time passed he turned out to be adorable, remember we did not know what to expect. As his coat grew longer he got all kinds of colors, he had white, brown and black hairs all over. He was going to a young boy that named him "Woody". One day I showed him to my son who was 12 years old. I said, "Hey, Look at Woody, He's so cute, isn't he?" My son being a Star Wars Fan answered, that's not a Woody, that's a Wookie. Then I looked at him and he really looked just like an Ewok. From that day on, when we have a litter my son will ask me to get him the Wookie. This is a TeddyBearSchnoodle term that was coined by my son Jacob Smeraglia and he wants to make sure that he gets all the fame from this name. What Makes a Good Breeder? Click to read |
